Seven Medals In A Day And Five In 67 Mins! Australia Is On Fire This Olympic!
Australia has surged up to fifth in the Tokyo Olympics medal standings after claiming three gold medals on Wednesday - and backing it up with four bronzes in a record day.
A gold rush saw Australia win both the men’s and women’s coxless fours, before Ariarne Titmus took out the 200m freestyle.
Lucy Stephan, Rosie Popa, Jessica Morrison and Annabelle McIntyre narrowly held off the Netherlands in a thriller minutes before the men — Jack Hargreaves, Alex Purnell, Alex Hill and Spencer Turrin — won their rowing event, too.
Moments later in the pool, Titmus stormed home for her second gold of the Games, claiming 200m freestyle gold with US rival Katie Ledecky well back in fifth.
Australia also added two bronze medals in the men’s and women’s quad sculls, capping off a glorious 67-minute period in which the nation won five medals.
Later in the day, Australia wrapped up another bronze medal by coming third in the 4x200m freestyle relay, won by Team GB to move one gold medal behind.
And Rohan Dennis rounded off the magical day with a bronze medal in the men’s road cycling time trial.
